Morgan Stanley Hosts Future Female Traders Competition

Release time:2019-04-12

Imagine if you could take on the role of a salesperson, a trader and a fund manager all in one day.

The inaugural Morgan Stanley Insights: Future Female Traders 2019 competition was successfully launched across Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.

In Shanghai, 29 university students in their freshman or sophomore years from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, SJTU and others joined the event, which was held at the Fanhai International School of Finance, Fudan University. The event was a half-day trading simulation event.

The aim of Future Female Traders was to provide students with a deeper understanding of the Sales & Trading business, the firm and the banking industry overall, while providing a real-life trading environment to make informed career decisions.

The event kicked off with a keynote speech from Wei Sun Christianson, Co-CEO of Asia Pacific and CEO of China, followed by a simulation trading competition where participants made trading decisions based on simulated market information and interacted with each other in sales, trader and fund manager roles.

“The event was really exciting and has helped me to know about the real world Sales & Trading environment, helping me to make decisions on my future career path,” said Caitlin, one of the participants from the Hong Kong event. The event ended on a high note when the participants had personal networking time with senior business representatives from our Sales & Trading teams.

100% of the participants would recommend this program to their friends. A key objective of the competition was to promote gender diversity and attract more women to apply for roles within Sales & Trading.

The three top performers from each location were given one-on-one career consultation sessions from our campus recruiters, to identify if an internship within Fixed Income, Institutional Equity or Bank Resource Management would be their best fit.  They will also be fast-tracked to the final stage assessment for one program of their choice when applying to Morgan Stanley 2020/2021 Asia Summer Analyst Programs.

The Morgan Stanley Asia Campus team will continue to stay connected with top performers from the program through coffee chats and mentoring from Sales & Trading professionals, bringing in more females to our future talent pool.
