Review of Thesis Defense

The postgraduate program culminates in thesis defense as the final and most important assessment. At 9 o’clock on May 26th, all the students gathered at Huangpu Campus where they would receive the last examination before graduation. During the presentation, students made logically well-arranged statements on their thesis studies and professors then directed to them questions pertaining to the presentation, research methods, data analysis or format, and offered professional suggestions, which inspire new ideas and bring in fresh insights. At last, all the students successfully passed the defense, eight of whose thesis were recommended by the Thesis Defense Committee as Outstanding Theses.

Students’ Words

EMF student Chuwei Luo

I chose Luckin Coffee as the theme of my thesis. I remember at the beginning of my study, I was under huge pressure as I asserted that the business mode of Luckin was unsustainable when the stock price of Luckin kept rising before its financial fraud scandal has been exposed. Fortunately, FISF professors offered great support when I decided to stick to the statement. When the scandal broke, I further dug into its fraud means and published articles in Fudan Financial Review under the guidance of my advisors Professor Huafeng Chen and Professor Lei Zhu, whose encouraging words and thoughtful, detailed feedback have been very important to my academic achievements.

EMF student Zhicheng Guo

Starting from the case analysis of GLP’s privatization, I studied the business mode of developer plus real estate fund and, on the basis of the lately launched infrastructure pilot public offering REITs products, explored the feasibility of China’s developers achieving a “capital circulation” mechanism. My thesis mainly focused on GLP’s company development and the changes in national policies, so with the launch of the pilot policies and the rapid layout of GLP in the field of data center, I kept revising under the guidance of my tutor Professor Xiangyu Guo and Professor Jun Qian and Huasheng Gao. Upon graduation, I’d love to give special thanks to FISF and the professors for their noble guidance, support with full encouragement and enthusiasm.

EMF student Ye Zhang

Just as my advisor, Professor Qiusha Peng says, live and learn. Learning is an exciting journey, which is full of vitality with no turning back. I appreciate those guides in my life.

FMBA PT+ student Jian Huo

Thesis writing is a struggling and lengthy process. Any negligence in conceptualization, demonstration, framework, writing or revision, may bring you to a slip between the cup and the lip. Thesis defense, on the other hand, is a whole different life experience, where the stern atmosphere and fierce questions and answers are much too impressive. I thank my advisor Professor Charles Zhang most, for his meticulous guidance. And I sincerely appreciate my fellow classmates, thank you for your company along the way.

FMBA PT+ student Ying Jiang

I’m very thankful to my advisor Professor Chunliu Yang. She’s so considerate and patient that we even had a long discussion on the thesis by phone as late as ten o’clock in the evening. I also came to realize that each step in writing a thesis must be based on evidence and it in turn improved my logical thinking skills. Great thanks to Professor Jun Qian, Professor Xiaxin Wang and Professor Chang Ma in the thesis defense committee, as well as the external reviewers for their precious suggestions. In addition, Professor Xiaxin Wang’s thesis writing course was of great benefit to me, especially for the guidance of academic formatting, which helps the thesis adhere to standards.
