FISF Fintech Camp 2023- "AI&FINTECH"

On July 23, 2023, the 3rd Fintech Camp of Fanhai International School of Finance, Fudan University (FISF) concluded successfully. The summer camp was open to outstanding high school students in Shanghai. Based on the master classes and case competitions from the previous two camps, this year’s camp added an industry visit activity and focused more on practice. Our camp has always been at the forefront of exploring the development direction of the financial industry, caring about human destiny and the Sustainable Development Goals. It clings to the educational philosophy of FISF: pursuing excellence in academic quality, adhering to social responsibility, and innovating educational practices.

Currently, financial technology has become the most revolutionary and influential field within the financial industry. Emerging technologies such as AI, big data, and blockchain have a revolutionary impact on traditional finance. Therefore, we chose “AI & Fintech” as the theme of this year’s summer camp, and invited numerous interdisciplinary and cross-sector experts from both academic and industrial backgrounds to contribute their insights. The training and application of AI tools were also used in the case analysis of “The Community Engagement Challenge.”

During the three-day intensive camp, the participants had close interactions with professors, experts, and industry leaders during their learning, visits, and competitions. They gained an understanding of the application of finance and fintech and contemplated their future professional choices and career plans. They visited the Shanghai United Assets and Equity Exchange, attended a lecture on the “Carbon Market,” and immersed themselves in the working environment of financial institutions, experiencing the development of the new energy market. They also collaborated with their peers in a business simulation challenge, exploring prominent issues related to sustainable development within their communities. Leveraging AI tools, they analyzed and generated a finance-driven solution, applying fintech to real-world problem-solving.

The FISF Fintech Camp has received high praise from domestic students and teachers for three consecutive years. Next year, we will launch a summer camp for international students, welcoming students from all around the world who are interested to enroll.

Well-prepared New Program

The three-day FinTech camp, organized by FISF, is a reflection of our carefully prepared undergraduate program-- Global Bachelor of Finance. In September of this year, the first cohort of students will begin their studies in the undergraduate program at FISF, with a diverse student pool including students from China’s Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and international students from various countries. As the youngest program at FISF, this major aligns with the development of finance and technology, offering students cutting-edge technology courses and practical activities in the financial industry.

Global Bachelor of Finance is a four-year program dedicated to data analysis and technological applications in finance. It is supported by Fudan University, a prestigious institution with a rich academic tradition and global recognition, and the Fanhai International School of Finance (FISF), renowned as the “Most knowledgeable international business school in Chinese finance.”

FISF places great emphasis on faculty development. The international top-notch faculty consisting of 56 professors and scholars forms the solid foundation of our GBF program. These professors have outstanding academic achievements and deliver knowledge in a clear and lively manner. Beyond FISF, support is also provided by other schools at Fudan University, such as computer science, mathematics, and data science, to cultivate students’ proficiency and creativity in cutting-edge financial technologies. All courses in this program are taught in English, following the standards of world-class business schools. The core curriculum covers classic financial theories and the application of technology in finance, as well as a significant number of practical courses. The program also offers optional modules in “Financial Practices” and “Quantitative Technology” to provide students with an internationalized, interdisciplinary, personalized, and hands-on learning experience. Outside the classroom, the program emphasizes experiential and extended learning through various academic activities, including study trips, case competitions, social practice, student teaching assistant scheme, and student research fellow program.

FISF also highly values the long-term growth of its students. It has established an academic advisory system, with administrative staff and faculty members as Level 1 and 2 advisors respectively. They provide students with various academic advisory services and resources to help them enjoy their studies and life, making the most of their four-year campus life. Additionally, the Professional Development Center at FISF offers career guidance and advisory services. It collaborates with students to explore various job opportunities, integrate industry resources, and establish a global alumni network, ultimately assisting students in achieving their career goals.

Student-Oriented Business School

Through a four-year systematic, internationalized, practical, and diversified cultivation, FISF aims to cultivate outstanding talents with an international perspective, professional knowledge, moral integrity, and the ability to lead the future development of finance in China and even the world. Our graduates are well-equipped to take on roles of financial management or consulting in government or corporate, work in top-tier companies in the finance and technology fields, or pursue further studies in finance, economics, business analysis, technology, law, and other related fields.

Embarking from FISF, with a solid theoretical foundation, excellent practical ability, and broad international vision, every student in our GBF program will make significant contributions to the world of finance!

Camper Testimonials

CHU Xixi
After participating in the fintech camp, I am thoroughly impressed by the world of fintech. The camp provided a concise yet comprehensive introduction to the inner workings of financial technology, ranging from blockchain to AI-powered risk assessment. The interactive classes and hands-on projects gave me a vivid sense of how fintech is shaping the traditional financial industry.

The camp also emphasized the ethical and social considerations of fintech, reminding me that technology is the tool that people harness rather than a cure-all solution to every pitfall. Through panel discussions and case studies, I learned that fintech is not only about coding and innovation, but also about decision-making and the commitment to sustainable development.

Overall, the camp was an eye-opening experience that has solidified my desire to pursue a career in fintech. I am grateful for the knowledge, skills, and network this experience has provided.

FISF fintech camp 2023 to me is like a portal into a wonderland, in which we were guided to explore the great possibilities and prospects of fintech. It established a unique academic atmosphere for the best students in Shanghai to feel, embrace and apply the fintech elements. Here we came in contact with the current finance situation and the problems that lie within, understood the concepts of finance and investment, and had a pretty good time with AI technology, which is the Ernie bot. We have enjoyed the classes conducted by the best teachers in fintech field, and the brilliant brainstorming with our partners in the competition session. The inspirations and gains have prepared us for more exciting fintech discoveries, and have made the camp life an unforgettable experience in this summer.

CHEN Mengyan

Before entering the summer camp, everyone wrote down three key words about the ideal summer camp, I wrote “cooperative””passionate” and “inspirational”.  And it seems to sum up my three-day summer camp experience pretty well

cooperative: We were randomly assigned when we first got into camp. In just three days, we need to get familiar with each other, know each other's position in the team, complete the project together and present it. As a “e” person, I took the initiative to act as the group leader, led the students to discuss their ideas on the topic and set the theme. We listened, we thought, we contradicted, we discussed, on the bus, in between lectures, during lunch breaks. through these, we refined the plan step by step, and we gradually developed a sense of being a team. The more than ten versions of ppt in the wechat group are the process of our excellence, the words of mutual encouragement and cheer, are the spirit of the team. The empty classroom in Guanghua Building has witnessed our rehearsals again and again, and the second prize is also an affirmation of our joint efforts. Harmonious cooperation, so that everyone play their own strengths, but also make us harvest precious friendship.

passionate: The lectures brought by the professors are all passionate and they share their experiences and industry information with us. They infect us with enthusiasm and make the students deeply immersed in the ocean of finance.

inspirational: In the three-day summer camp, we not only listen to lectures, but also personally enter the enterprise, truly exchange questions and answers with professors, experience options and futures, generate a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of finance in practice, and stimulate our interest in finance.

What a camp!
