In the dialogue, profound discussions centered around the influence of the new slate of US trade policies on relevant countries and regions, especially how the tariff policies affect Chinese economy and what countermeasures China has taken. Professor Jun Qian believed that despite the short-term negative impact brought by the tariff increase by the US against China, China could withstand the contraction of direct trade with the US through diversified export structure and global layout of industrial chain. He claimed that the great many uncertainties existing in the process of implementing the tariff policies made by the US government upon the many countries, regions and industries had already had obvious negative impacts on the US capital market, and that the domestic inflation in the US following the validity of the tariffs would undoubtedly slacken off the US economic growth.

Qian believed that another effective method for China to deal with the US tariff policies was to strengthen economic and trade cooperation with EU, ASEAN and other emerging market regions. At the end of the dialogue, he stressed the importance of carrying on Sino-US communication in order to prevent the bilateral economic and trade relation between the two from worsening.
