Sustainability Class Makes International Green Gown Awards

The action learning coursework called ”The Great SDGs Challenge in Impact Investing” has been nominated in the “Next Generation Learning and Skills” category of this year’s International Green Gown Awards 2023. “The Great SDGs Challenge in Impact Investing” is part of the C.A.R.E. (Culture, Art, Responsibility and Ethics) learning module for the Elite Master of Finance (EMF) Program at the Fanhai International School of Finance, Fudan University (FISF).



Established in 2004, the Green Gown Awards recognizes the exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges.With sustainability moving up the agenda, the Awards have become established as the most prestigious recognition of best practice within the further and higher education sector.


2016 saw the introduction of the International Green Gown Awards allowing higher education institutions from all across the world to be recognized for their efforts towards a more sustainable future.


“The Great SDGs Challenge was setup to help the talented finance students in our EMF Program to fully engage with the best of the best social enterprises in China and from abroad,” said Professor Charles Chang, Deputy Dean of Academics, Professor of Finance at FISF, “we are extremely honored to be selected for this year’s International Green Gown Awards and look forward to supporting this very important showcase of global sustainability learning for many years to come.”



“The lack of funding for the deployment of the SDGs is at the heart of the curriculum, and investments is the vital missing piece to how we are going to reach the 2030 Global Agenda in time,” explained Mr. Allan Chou, the Global Advisor and Chief Designer of The Great SDGs Challenge,


“These young finance talents will be starting their career at many of the top financial institutions around to world very soon and we must empower them to have the sympathetic mindset to support every great SDG related causes that come their way,” said Mr. Chou.




The highlighted project focused on social enterprises in ASEAN Countries as part of Youth Co:Lab Acceleration program developed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Citi Foundation, the task was to find compatible impact startups in China to demonstrate that the SDGs framework is being deployed simultaneously across different continents. Multinational corporations such as Bosch, Saint-Gobain and Bytedance were involved with the deployment of the coursework and nonprofit organizations including China Youth of Tomorrow (CYOT) and CASVI were involved with the main content curation and judging the final pitch by the student teams.


The awards is administered by The Alliance for Sustainability in Leadership in Education (EAUC) with 93 Finalists spanning 25 countries vying for the top spot in 2023, and winners will be announced at the International Awards Ceremony, in association with Allianz Global Investors, virtually at the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development on 17th July 2023 at 18:30 BST / 13:30 EST.
