Release time:2025-02-28

Joy comes along the beginning of the new spring season. With the gentle touch of spring breeze, the new year has secretly come into our campus carrying infinite vitality and hope. To welcome the brand-new start, we specially organized a unique folk customs carnival, bringing to life the essence of traditional cultures in the vigor of youth.

Opening Ceremony - Piloting Ideas

In the midst of laughter, the carnival officially started. The host ignited the atmosphere on site with passionate words, kicking off the event.

At the beginning of this event, Dean Jun Qian gave a speech entitled “What can we learn from the ‘DeepSeek moment’?,” making an in-depth analysis on the symbiotic relationship between finance and technological innovation based on the development trend of AI big model. His forward-looking insights not only deepened students’ understanding of the current situation of fintech, but also provided a new way of thinking for students to apply what they’ve learned to practice.

As the discussions carried further, the mascot of FISF’s undergraduate program “Fudan Leopard Baby” was also unveiled. Teacher Guoshi Tong, Academic Director of the Undergraduate Program explained the meaning of this mascot, which instantly got the mascot under the on-site spotlight, adding more cultural atmosphere and emotional resonance to the carnival.

Intangible Cultural Heritage Market - Experience of Craftsmanship

Subsequently, the host gave a detailed introduction of the various activities in the carnival. Thrilled and excited, the students present could hardly wait to participate.

01 Sugar painting: a sweet-flavor intangible cultural heritage

Using a spoon as the pen and sugar as ink, the sugar painting master skillfully drew the outlines of various exquisite patterns with melted sugar juice, such as zodiac animals and flowers, etc, and then stuck them up gently with bamboo sticks, presenting delicate artworks that were both good-looking and edible. Whether a simple animal model or a complex pattern, each line gathered his passion and inheritance of traditional culture.

02 Dragon and phoenix character writing: an integration of calligraphy and drawing

A drawing exists in the characters and a special meaning exists in the drawing. Occupying a small area of the carnival, the dragon and phoenix character writing attracted the attention of many students. This unique combination of calligraphy and folk art integrates the dragon and phoenix patterns with characters perfectly with ingenious brushstrokes, displaying an extremely high art value. From this activity, the students not only got close to the distinguished charm of calligraphy, but profoundly understood the ardent pursuit of traditional Chinese culture for auspicious and beautiful visions.

03 Dough shaping workshop: all kinds of figures on the fingertip

The shape of the colorful dough kept changing by the nimble fingers, and soon, vivid and lovely dough figures appeared before our eyes. Dough figurine, an ancient craft, has been revitalized at the carnival. Instructed by the masters, students unleashed their creativity and created various artworks from classic cartoon characters to our newly released “Fudan Leopard Baby,” each full of personality and creativity, exhibiting a unique spark under the collision of traditional culture and modern aesthetics.

04 Cloud station: a new life of childhood fun

Puffy, soft and melt-in-the-mouth marshmallows is a sweet memory from childhood for many. So, for this carnival, we have set up the marshmallow production area. From syrup heating to thread-pulling spinning, each step is filled with the fun of exploring. In the end, the pure white marshmallows bloomed like clouds in the hands, that pure joy makes the campus in early spring even warmer and sweeter.

Conclusion

At the carnival integrating tradition and modernity and combining learning and practice, the students got close to and experienced in person the creation process of folk products, which not only deepened their understanding and passion for folk culture, but also aroused their innovative thinking and hands-on abilities. Let us look forward to the next gathering time and continue to engrave our unique memories of youth!
