On the afternoon of January 10th, the “International School of Finance - Saïd Business School” Global CEO program cooperated by Fudan University and Oxford University started their course offerings. The first batch of students were senior management from Yunnan Baiyao, CTrip Finance, Aim Vaccine and other renowned companies and institutions at home and abroad, covering several hot industries like medical research and development, environmental technology, semiconductor chips.

The Global CEO Program was jointly founded by the Fudan International School of Finance and Saïd Business School, Oxford University, marking the initial cooperation of this kind between the two. British Embassy to China, China-Britain Business Council and London Stock Exchange took part in the early-stage activities of the program multiple times.

The two-year “FISF-Saïd Global CEO Program” assembles world-leading courses and teaching faculties, and offers an opportunity for the Eastern and Western economies to grasp and integrate the contents in global finance, frontier technology, humanistic business channels and other contents through two-way exchange and learning, aiming to empower entrepreneurs with insights into business essentials, knowledge of financial logic, competence to lead innovation reforms and practical experience in management, and also foster innovative and humanistic leaders with global visions and forward-looking thinking methods.

The program contains two Oxford modules and four overseas modules (for which Oxford professors participate in teaching), six Fudan modules and three practice modules, covering subjects of artificial intelligence, bio-medicine, semiconductor chips, new energy and new materials.

Xin Qiu, Secretary of Fudan University Party Committee, stated in the school opening speech, “I hope in this learning journey full of challenges and opportunities, all of you can learn from both teachers and fellow students, and integrate the cultural heritage and academic spirit of Fudan and Oxford into your own management practice, so that you can grow into extraordinary business leaders equipped with global perspectives, social responsibilities and innovative spirits, who will inject new vitality to business development, contribute to industrial progress, and further boost social prosperity.”

“We live in an economic environment full of uncertainties, so in order to better carry out business, we must learn to observe the world from various perspectives and keep learning.” noted William James, Former Vice President of Oxford University and Professor in Virology, as the mentor representative. He thanked the Fudan team for the great efforts it had made on the program, and expressed his expectation to teach class and exchange with the students in the near future.

How is the “FISF-Saïd” Global CEO Program different from senior management programs in other business schools? Jun Qian, Executive Dean of Fudan International School of Finance and Professor in Finance, stressed, “The core aim of the program is to solve the difficulties commonly faced by company CEOs. Combining the achievements of Fudan and Oxford in frontier technology research fields, we can provide guidance on future development trends and investment directions for enterprises. Hope the students can develop deeper understanding and insights of the development direction of their businesses and future investment fields after the two-year course.

Holding this philosophy, the students need to hand in “an essay” after each class, which will be graded by the mentors. “We have to ensure each student take the course seriously and actually acquire something.” said Haofang Chen, Director of the Program Course, “they need to listen carefully in class and make timely review and summary after class.”

Why do you choose to become a first-batch student of “FISF-Saïd” Global CEO Program? Ming Dong, a representative of the new students and Vice Chairman, CEO and President of Yunnan Baiyao, stated, “The combination of Oxford and Fudan symbolizes not just a merge of two knowledge systems, but more importantly an integration of two values.” And Kiran Patel, a representative of the new students from the UK and Vice Chairman of China-Britain Business Council, expressed his expectation of the program, “I wish to enrich my skills through the program, and to contribute my own strength to the development of China in the next stage at this critical time when Chinese enterprises start to go overseas and global.”
