July in the heart of summer is a month of fire and fever. On the morning of July 9^th, with the bright sunlight spread across the campus, 60 excellent high school students gathered with their financial dreams, marking the official start of the FISF “Future Financier” High School Student Summer Camp! In the next three days, they would explore the mystery of the financial world, spark new ideas through the exchange of ideas and initiate a feast of knowledge and growth.

Camp opening ceremony: word for the future and ignition of dreams

At 9 o’clock in the morning, the camp opening ceremony was hosted by Yi Liu, Director of Student Affairs Department and Undergraduate Program Director of FISF. In an extremely lively atmosphere, the students’ eyes flickered with anticipation and curiosity towards the unknown field.

Yuejiang Li, Secretary of FISF Party General Branch and Secretary of the Branch Party Committee of the School of Economics, expressed his warm welcome to the campers in representation of FISF. He sent his words to all the campers, wishing them to take the courage to explore, think actively and dare to raise questions in the camp, so that they could absorb sufficient nutrients in the vast ocean of financial knowledge and lay a solid foundation for becoming true “future financiers.”

Subsequently, Guoshi Tong, FISF Undergraduate Program Academic Director and Associate Professor in Finance, gave a detailed explanation on the school-running features, excellent teachers, the talent cultivation mode and broad development prospect of the undergraduate program of fintech, depicting a vivid and charming future blueprint for the students committed to engage in the fintech field.

Maiden voyage: the first encounter with funds, sowing the seed of financial thinking

The first knowledge feast after the opening ceremony was brought by Guoshi Tong, a teacher deeply loved by students! Through the comparative case of “seeing the difference between the result of no investment and the compound interest of a monthly investment of 1000 yuan in 20 years”, Teacher Tong made a clear demonstration of the long-term value of fund investment, transforming abstract financial theories into intuitive and easy-to-understand cognition, which not only allowed students to grasp the basic logic behind fund investment, but also aroused their passion to explore the financial disciplinary through an ocular demonstration of wealth increase and a connection with the real market.

Ice breaking and power gathering: melting ice into a ball in laughter

After the lecture came a relaxing “ice-breaker journey”! Led by the host, the campers quickly got immersed in a carefully designed ice-breaker game. Gradually, the initial shyness morphed into laughter, giving way to friendship and cooperation.

Ice-breaker game 1: “stringing candied hawthorn on a stick”

The campers made a circle and strung each other’s names, hometowns and hobbies in a relaxing atmosphere. The longer the “stick of candied hawthorn” got, the closer their hearts became.

Ice-breaker game 2: “the wind blows”

“The big wind blows!” “Blows for whom?” With the changing instructions, eligible students rapidly exchanged seats, which required quick response and fast speed. A bit of “mess” quickly warmed up a jovial team atmosphere.

After the residual heat of the ice-breakers having taken over the campers, the host gave a detailed introduction of the forms and rules of the financial challenge on the third day, and clarified the specific requirements for achievement presentation. While feeling challenged, the campers were itching to have a go.

Visiting a famous enterprise: getting close to frontier insights and master’s guidance

On the afternoon of the first day of the camp, the campers set foot on a journey to an enterprise visit and practical learning. Through on-site visit, the students got a close look at the development of Huifu Co., Ltd, its cooperative service partners, innovative models of financial payment services and real business operation process. By observing the evolution process of payment modes, they developed a deep understanding of the strong function of innovation-driven financial reforms.

After the visit, Qiming Dai, General Manager of the Comprehensive Department of Huifu Co., Ltd, conducted an in-depth exchange with the campers. Based on his personal experience, he talked about the current development process of digital payment. Meanwhile, as an excellent alumnus of Fudan University, he gave some suggestions for growth in various aspects of skills, knowledge, thinking and spirits, encouraging them to find the right direction and keep on learning in the wave of digitization. In the Q&A link, the students had a heated discussion with Dai upon his understanding of the financial industry and person experience for growth.

Insight into finance: essence, value and future blueprint

Taking this enterprise visit as an opportunity, Charles Zhang, Deputy Dean of Academics at FISF and Professor in Finance, gave a speech entitled Why Finance?, leading the students to think about the essence, value and significance of finance. From different perspectives of whether finance is suitable for youngsters, the functions of the financial industry, where to find opportunities in the financial industry and responsibilities to engage in the financial industry, he gave a profound interpretation of “why finance?” This lecture not only solved the questions in the students’ deep heart, but greatly broadened their horizons and ignited their inner dreams to seek a financial career.

The first camp day was already exciting with high lights. In the next two days, it was expected that the campers would take the courage to explore in the ocean of finance, with passion as the sail and knowledge as the paddle, achieving common growth through team cooperation.
