120 Years of Stellar Splendour, Dawnbringers’ Daybreak. A Review of School Opening Activities of First-batch Class of Fudan AMF | AMF

At summer’s end and autumn’s beginning, the world is bathed in a transforming glow. At the season that carries the 120-year-old Fudan spirit and hope for the future, the first-batch students of Fudan AMF set sail for a pilgrimage to the mountains and rivers, an inauguration of academic pursuits, and officially started their two-year journey towards advanced finance.

Attired in formality, gathering to commence a new academic journey

On September 6^th, the school opening ceremony was solemnly held at Handan Campus of Fudan University. On the morning of the day, students gathered at Fudan International Finance Building, in formal attires and high spirits, demonstrating the outstanding professional demeanor of AMF students.

Hello, new students

At the cremony, Jun Qian, Executive Dean of Fudan International School of Finance and Professor in Finance, delivered a welcoming speech to all the new students. He first congratulated the students on choosing FISF as their home for growth and further education, and sent his blessings, “In the upcoming two years, let’s work together to learn, to accumulate and to create knowledge, making teaching benefit both students and teachers and combining theory with practice.” Dean Qian also expressed his ardent anticipations for the future of the students, “Looking forward to our meeting again at Fudan Xianghui Hall two years later, when FISF teachers and I, as well as your families, will witness the honorable moments of graduation.”

2025 Freshman Mingyi Sun gave a talk as a representative of all the AMF new students. As a “cross-domain green hand” with 20 years of work experience in law, he shared his original aspiration and expectation of choosing the AMF program. He said that in the context of rapidly developing emerging fields like data asset financialization, he wished to systematically study theoretical financial knowledge to realize the transformation from a “risk manager” to a “value creator”. Representing all the freshmen, he made a promise: to abide by school rules, shoulder missions, strive for progress and pursue excellence, working hard to add a brilliant stroke to the next 120-year glory of Fudan and growing into financiers with Chinese characteristics in the new era who are “grounded in theory, skilled in practice, daring in challenge, global in perspective, and committed to excellence.”

Clarifying academic regulations and building the class structure

At the session of AMF academic directors with all the freshmen in the afternoon, Professor Lin Sun systematically expounded the academic requirements, course system and cultivation targets of the program, and particularly emphasized the importance of academic integrity and the culture of rigor, encouraging everyone to always maintain an academic spirit of seeking truth in their future studies and lay a solid foundation for growing into high-level financial elites.

Later a simple but solemn class committee appointment ceremony was held. The academic director granted letters of appointment to the class committee members of the first-batch class, and conveyed earnest hopes that the class committee could act as a bridge and bond to connect and serve fellow classmates, foster group cohesion and create a class atmosphere of diligence, reflection and mutual growth. The class committee members unanimously promised to faithfully perform their duties, prove worthy of the trust of teachers and fellow students, and dedicate themselves fully to the growth and success of the class.

Meanwhile, an academic affairs representative of FISF gave a detailed introduction of the student services, academic resources and cultivation procedures, and a member of the IT Office demonstrated the basic system operation and the way to gain technical access in order to help the students to clarify their study paths, get familiar with various platforms of the school, and make full preparations for the high-intensity learning in the near future.

Carry forward the 120-year legacy of learning and uphold the enduring Fudan Spirit

On the very day, the students had a group tour at the School History Museum of Fudan University. Guided by the instructor, they reviewed Fudan’s school-running history and spiritual tradition over the last 120 years. From the difficult establishment of Fudan Public School by the very first president Xiangbo Ma, to the resilient campus relocation during the War of Resistance Against Japan, and to the robust development after the reform and opening-up policy, the students were deeply moved by each session of history. What impressed them most is the original aspiration upon the establishment of the school, “The splendor of the sun and moon shines forth; Day by day renewal is proclaimed,” and the Fudan Spirit of “Unity, Service and Sacrifice.” Standing in front of the display of all the successive distinguished scholars, the students further reinforced their resolve to pursue academic excellence. Through this journey of school history, the students not only developed a deeper sense of identification with their alma mater, but also truly understood the responsibility and mission as Fudan members.

Coming from different paths, forging a collective identity

In July, the first-batch students of AMF launched a two-day, one-night orientation event “under the vast sky and a canopy of stars.” The students set off from different regions, wearing blue class uniforms and customized their AMF peaked caps to manifest their group cohesion and youthful vitality. Amid the emerald peaks and bamboo sea, together they trekked through the forests, ascended to new heights, shared their visions and collaborated on common ground. This ice-breaking journey, going beyond the classroom and integrating into the nature, not only enhanced their understanding of each other, but also led to a profound camaraderie through collaboration and companionship, leaving a “softly luminous but brilliantly shining” mark in the group memory of AMF.

Time Capsule: a letter to my future self

There was a special heartwarming session at the school opening ceremony - the “Memory Keeper of AMF First-batch Class.” Watching the the September breeze stirring ripples through the plane tree leaves, the students wrote down words for their future selves in two years’ time on postcards, which, carrying their original aspirations and expectations, would be placed in the “Time Capsule” and cherished till the graduation ceremony in 2027. When the chorus of cicadas drowns Handan Road again, the letters will travel through all the seasons and call at the threshold of graduation to witness the growth and transformation of each AMFer.

The best landscape is awaiting AMFers. May each student of the first-batch class bear in mind the expectations of their teachers and seniors and maintain their passion and purity in the academic exploration and career development in the next two years, living up to the name of Fudan and being worthy of the study of finance.
