Decoding Secrets of Good Skin and a Good Mood, First Session of FISF Employee Course “Healthy Life Sharing” Series
发布时间:2021-04-06
Why do humans get old?
What’s the secret to keep good skin? How to hold on to your hormones? On March
17th 2021, the first session of FISF employee course “Healthy Life
Sharing” serieswas held. FISF HR department invited Amanda Yen, a nutritionist,
to focus on the topic of “how to maintain clear skin and a good mood while busy
at work”, decoding health secrets and helping people to live a healthy and
pleasant life.
Guest Speaker of this session
Amanda Yen
Comprehensive Health Consultant, Nutritionist, Mindfullness Coach, Trainer
Amanda Yen has passed the
integrated economics course in Washington that combines nutrition and
psychology, acquired the certificate of US Naturopathy Dietetic Advisor, and
qualified as a yoga and meditation teacher by North American Yoga Alliance. She
once worked as the trainer in Hufuyu, a cosmetics brand under the biggest
luxury group LVMH. Currently she takes the responsibility in the first Urban
Comprehensive Health Center in Shanghai for course development, and gives
classes regularly in Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and some
other universities as a visiting lecturer in mindfulness application and
nutriologyneurology.
At the mid-day break, over
20 colleagues from different departments of FISF went into Classroom 1001 at
Harbor Ring Plaza, waiting for nutritionist Amanda to uncover the secret to
keep good skin and a good mood. Amanda started her wonderful session with one
question: why do humans get old?
At present, there are many popular theories about senility of humans, such
as the free radical theory, photoaging theory and saccharification theory.
Amanda mainly introduced the telomere theory in detail.
The reason for senility is that cells no longer divide and renew, and the
element to restrict cell division is the matter existing on top of chromosomes,
the telomere. Telomere is like a tall hat placed on the head of chromosomes.
Every time a cell divides, the telomere at the top of the chromosome shortens.
When the telomere is too short to be shortened, the cell is unable to divide
any more. However, as studies show, there is a kind of enzyme that may elongate
the telomere, called telomerase.
What can influence the activity of telomerase? One significant
factor is hormones. Amanda said hormones are the “orchestra in the body”, and
that we should try to keep it balance. What our skin surface displays is often
closely related to our inner emotions.
Estrogen (female hormone) and and rogen (male hormone)
simultaneously exist in female bodies, and the former is tied to the moisture content, glossiness, smoothness and anti-aging
ability of the skin. When estrogen is secreted normally, the skin can look more
moisturized and water locking, glossy and smooth, and aging-resisting. Of
course, it also plays a crucial part in growing and keeping the female body
shape. However, too much estrogen can cause bad effects to physical health,
such as poxes around the lower jaw, the chin, the mouth and the back.
In an era full of involution, modern people face heavy pressure
all the time. Under pressure, the adrenal gland will release stress hormone (or
say, cortisol), urging the body to make effective response to pressure.
However, if the body is under long-term pressure, the level of cortisol will
stay high for a long time, leading to negative impact on the body.
How do we control hormones? Amanda advised that we
keep an optimistic attitude and avoid hostility, pessimism and anxiety. She
introduced three specific ways to help reduce negative moods:
Examine ourselves from an
onlooker’s perspective. As the saying goes, lookers-on see more than players.
Trying “multiple dimensions to observe ourselves” is a good way to keep focus on the
objective.
Try meditation and focus on yourself. Do 5 minutes’ meditation
every day, and negative emotions and pressure can be effectively relieved.
Set specific goals for various phases in life. Regularly set a
small target for work or life. This can concentrate our minds on the target and
thus make more efforts.
A life tip: the rainbow diet
Simply stated, the rainbow diet is to divide natural foods into
7 categories of different colors, including red, orange, yellow, green, indigo,
purple blue and white. These colors represent different phytonutrients, and the corresponding
foods have different health care functions. Amanda suggested eating natural
foods of all the 7 colors every week.
Eat Real Foods of All Different Colors to Ensure You’re Getting A Broad
Spectrum of Nutrients.

Meanwhile, she recommended keeping
rainbow snacks in offices that can best help keep skin beauty, brain vitality
and a good mood.

At the end of the course, Amanda kindly served deserts and
fruits she prepared herself, bringing warmth and intimacy.
How students feel
After class, colleagues expressed what they have learned in the
class:
I agree with the teacher’s theory about the relationship between
external
image and internal emotion. She also mentioned mindfulness, which impressed me
a lot. It’s really helpful to both life and work to keep a positive and
optimistic attitude.
This class reminds me of the great amount of stupid taxes I paid
on buying skincare products. I once questioned the efficacy of those expensive
products, but I don’t know what to choose until I listened to this class. It
can save us so much.
I’m impressed by the rainbow diet shared by the teacher. It's surprising for me
that eating fruits is also a science. In the past I only ate what I liked, but
from now on I’ll try fruits of all the 7 colors every day.
