A Team Led by Professor Cheng-Der FuhChengde Fu Visits Industrial Securities, Engages in an In-depth Discussion on Development and Opportunities of Securities Industry

On December 18th 2020, with the strong support of
FISF Professional Development Center (PDC for short), a team of FISF professors
and staff led byCheng-Der Fuh, Professor
of Quantitative Finance (Teaching-Track) and Academic Director of EMF, arrived
at Industrial Securities for a round of enterprise visits and exchanges. The
Enterprise Visits Second Stop of 2020 FISF Education Service Center (ESC)
L&T officially started. The L&T program (Learning & Teaching
Program) is aimed at practicing the concept of establishing an excellent center
of financial education, and enhancing the communication and interaction among major
players. Those players being the financial industry, the real economy and FISF
professors, who promote university enterprise cooperation and explore new
opportunities in financial development.
Industrial Securities Co., Ltd. was among the first batch of
nationwide comprehensive innovative securities companies in China approved by
China Securities Regulatory Commission. It’s a large-scale financial holding
group covering various professional fields like securities, funds, futures, asset management,
direct investment, alternative investment and cross-border business. On the day
of the visit, Dr. Yilin Huang, Vice President of Industrial Securities,
Guoxiong Sun, Office Head of the Group, Jun Shi, General Manager of Risk
Management Department II, Dr. Fangbiao Zheng, Deputy Dean of Institute of
Economics and Finance, Wenjie Zhu, President Assistant of Industrial Securities
Asset Management Co., Ltd., Jingbo Liu, Director of Research Planning and
Product Division of Bond and Derivative Business Department, and Yubin Zhou,
Deputy Director of Recruitment Management Division of Human Resource Department
(a student of the first session class of FISF FMBA), took part in the activity,
and expressed their warm welcome to the professors.
During the activity, professors first introduced their
respective research fields and course teaching
situations, then talked about the underlying reasons for the visit, recent
development and future planning of FISF as well as general student information
and cultivation goals of various programs. They also expressed their
expectations for more cooperation in various aspects like recruitment,
employment, research and joint postdoctoral cultivation. During the meeting,
General Manager Jun Shi stated that the registration system is a challenge to
the business mode of investment banks, as the previous administrative
supervision taking charge will be replaced after the registration system is
implemented. When that implementation is realized, marketization and
legalization will be at its core, requiring relevant talents to be equipped
with certain pricing, valuation, sales and industrial research abilities. Dr.
Fangbiao Zheng gave a detailed illustration to professors on the development
history, research advantages, business orientation, structure of Industrial
Securities Research Institute, as well as the research fields of each research
centers. He went on to mention the talent requirements of the research
institute, among which the capabilities of stress tolerance, communication and
teamwork are essential. Next Director Jingbo Liu explained to the professors
the quantitative instruments and the applications that are commonly used in the
A-share market.
As the academic director of EMF, Professor Chengde Fu has
expressed his goal for students’ applying what they’ve learned into practice. Yubin
Zhou, Deputy Director of Recruitment Management Division of Human Resource
Department, introduced the 6 trend changes and the theories behind them in securities
firms’ talent requirements in recent years. He made a detailed interpretation
on the talent requirement trends in investment banking, large institute
business, wealth management and fintech, etc. Industrial Securities wishes to
have the chance to employ in advance outstanding talents of FISF through
channels like internship. President Yilin Huang claimed that internship is a
key measure to identify excellent talents, during which students’ professional
ability and characteristics can be evaluated while determining whether they are
fit for the position.
In addition to this, professors also conducted in-depth
discussion and exploration with senior management of Industrial Securities on
hot issues, including the transformation of the buy-side research mode, the
development trend of wealth management market, the operation of asset
management, the influence brought by the entry of foreign hedge funds, and the
professional abilities of fintech talents required by securities industry.

In the coming year, the L&T program will continue to seek chances
for professors to carry out cooperation and communication with other
representative enterprises in order to assist professors’ teaching and
research, to promote the cultivation of students in the program, and to
constantly nourish and provide financial talents “keeping pace with the times,
long-lasting and of great use” for the society.
